Winnie-Tascas July Newsletter
Our meeting was held in July at the Big
Lagoon State Park in Pensacola, FL. Members present were Sue and George
Daws, Margie Roberts and Clarice Tyler (guest Marian Baumann). We left Tallahassee on Monday morning and
had a very good lunch at a small restaurant in Milton, FL. Sue lived in
this area growing up and showed us where she went to school, the school
that was named after her Father who was principal and also where her
Mother started the lunchroom program for the school. We arrived at our
campsites early afternoon. This was a very nice park but had very big
mosquitoes everywhere. Tuesday we had lunch at the well known
Irish Pub McQuire’s. There were half a million one-dollar bills signed
and displayed on the ceiling and all around. One specialty we were
served was a bean soup (navy beans) for 18 cents with a meal and very
good. After lunch we headed for the Naval Museum. There were two IMAX
movies featuring Coral Reefs of the world and the Blue Angels. Both were
very interesting. Old airplanes were displayed and replicas of ships
with some depicting the World War II times. Wednesday we drove to Foley, AL. A very
large outlet mall is there with numerous well-known stores. We ate lunch
at the restaurant Lambert’s where they feature throwing rolls to you.
You can order an entrée with 2 vegetables. They also serve food at each
table from big pots like macaroni and tomatoes, fried okra, fried
potatoes with onions, black-eyed peas. Needless to say we all came away
stuffed. August 5-16 some of us will be in Franklin,
NC at the Calisaya River RV Park. The Daws will be there with George’s
two sons Keith and Steve. Margie and friend Liz, Tom Halloman, Jim and
Sue Poss and the McCall’s who
will be joining us later in the week. We will be deciding on our agenda
when everyone arrives. On September 16-18 we will meet at
Cottonhill Corps of Engineer Park near Fort Gaines, GA.
