CALOOSA WINNIES
December 2004 outing

Local Chapter

The Caloosa Winnies celebrated Christmas at Lakeland RV Resort December 2 – 5, 2004 In Lakeland, Florida with 8 members present. The officers provided the agenda and hosted the event. Thursday evening we went to dinner at a local seafood restaurant and settled in the clubhouse with an exciting game of “31”. Breakfast was enjoyed by all at the recreation hall, compliments of the campground. Everyone joined in conversations about their summer travels, hurricane survival stories and other activities. After lunch we headed into the city of Lakeland to see the Christmas decorations. Lakeland is known for their lakes, also called “The City of Swans”, we observed the beautiful swans and other birds residing on the lake. A group of children were rehearsing for an evening performance of a Christmas music program in the city park and we enjoyed watching them. Dinner was at Fred’s Market, a southern buffet menu, which everyone enjoyed. Back at the campground clubhouse a fun game of cards ended the evening. Saturday dawned a cool, cloudy day for Florida, but that did not cool our enthusiasm for being together for breakfast and the days activities. President Barb Wood organized a craft project and everyone had fun making the snowmen! (Snowmen in Florida?) The snowmen served as our place setting decorations for dinner later that evening. A business meeting was next, since we did not have a November meeting, elections were held. The new slate of officers was voted on and accepted: Presidents, Barb & Chuck Wood; Vice Presidents, Nancy & Jerry Miller; Secretary, Sue & Bill Fuss; Treasurer, Jane & Jim O’Neill. President Barb announced we were going to do some different things this coming year and also keep recruiting new members. Bud and Paula Geng, Caloosa Winnie members, will be installed soon as Presidents of the state “Winnie Gators”, and we will give them our support. Happy Hour began at 3pm, and a White Elephant exchange was held which brought a lot of laughs! A delicious ham dinner was served by the officers at 6pm, topped off with more exciting card games for remainder of the evening.  Sunday morning dawned sunny and warm. Breakfast was served at the recreation hall overlooking the lake, and soon we had to say our goodbyes. It was great seeing everyone again after a long summer, and we’re looking forward to meeting at the January campout to be held at Sun ‘n’ Fun Campground in Sarasota.
