Caloosa Winnies of SW Florida
May 2004 outing
By Sue Fuss

May ends up the Caloosa Winnies camping season--interesting and fun campouts, thanks to our host couples who put a lot of though into each event.
Out host for May were Phil & Shirley Halstead and Glenn & Judy Mercer.  They made sure that we had such a good time that we would be eager to hurry back in the fall.
The weekend started with a pizza party, compliments of the Holiday Cove RV Resort Management, for the Thursday arrivals.  The rest of the weekend was filled with exploring, Marina Grill Dockside, games, Cafe on the Beach, trolley ride on the Gulf Highway.  Jerry Miller even got in some fishing in the creek that ran through the campground, but the highlight of the weekend was the Kentucky Derby!  We really got into cheering for our horses.  The winners were First Place, Ellen Zucker and Judy Mercer; Second place, Helen Nesley and Anita Law;  Third place, Charles Nesley.  Actually there were two highlights of the weekend:  the Kentucky Derby and the Great Poker Game.
Every Saturday night some of the residents of Holiday Cove get together for a poker game.  Well, Barbara Wood, who has never played poker in her life but has been watching the poker tournaments on TV, decided that she would try her hand at it.  Jim and Jane O'Neill, Helen and Charles Nesley and Chuck Hartley also joined in the game.  Jim O'Neill was really stacking up the chips for a while but eventually all the chips ended up in front of a resident of the park.  But a good time was had by all, players and spectators alike!
Sunday morning we said our good-byes over coffee and donuts and then scattered for the summer.
