Caloosa
Winnies By Nancy Miller
May 4 – 7, 2006, the Caloosa Winnies traveled to Crystal Isle RV Resort at Crystal River, Florida for the last campout of the season. Co-hosts for the weekend were Anita & Bob Law, Jane & Jim O’Neill and Nancy & Jerry Miller. Other members attending were Sue & Bill Fuss, Paula & Bud Geng, Kathryn Griffin, JoAnne Weber, Barbara Wood, and special guests Zeline & Lee Wishing. Happy Hour commenced at 4:00pm, followed by a potluck dinner. Hosts provided barbecue and rolls, and with all the wonderful dishes provided by members, we had a great dinner! After dessert of ice cream sundaes, an Oreo stacking contest was held at 7:00pm. The winners were Lee Wishing, and Jane O’Neill. Their prizes were – of course – packages of Oreo Double Stuff! The rest of the evening we enjoyed playing cards. Friday morning Bob Law discovered he had a flat tire on his tow car! Luckily, it didn’t go flat while being towed on the way to the campout! Bug Geng & Jerry Miller volunteered to get it fixed for him. That’s the GREAT thing about belong to a WIT group – we’re always there to help each other! About 9:45 am we went to Homosassa Springs Wildlife Park and enjoyed seeing the native Florida birds and animals. After lunch at the park we headed back to the campground for a relaxing afternoon enjoying the wonderful weather! Happy Hour was held at 4:00pm before we traveled to Crystal River Ale House for dinner. The restaurant is located right on the bay with a beautiful view of the marina and harbor. After we returned to the campground we discovered a group of fishing derby contestants took over the recreation hall, so we diverted to our next choice of buildings – the laundry room - so we could play cards!! Never let it be said we would postpone a great game of cards!! Breakfast the next day was at the recreation hall where the campground staff cooked a wonderful meal that was enjoyed by all! Our business meeting was held at 10:00am. We were delighted to welcome Zeline & Lee Wishing as new members! Right after the meeting we held the “Winnebago Races”. Jerry Miller decorated some miniature RV’s and set up a “track” made of tape on the tables for racing lanes. Everyone placed their bets and we were off to the races! Everyone cheered for their favorite coach and a good time was had by all! Lunch was held at the Miller’s coach where Bob Law cooked hot dogs on his grill for everyone. The rest of the afternoon some members played Ladder Golf & Washer Toss, while some took a nap! At the 4:30pm Happy Hour we celebrated the running of the Kentucky Derby! The campground provided a big screen TV, which made for an exciting event! Everyone wore their hats as part of the tradition of the derby, and we had a lot of laughs about the designs! Zeline Wishing decorated hers from a flower basket with Kentucky state flower Goldenrod, complete with a horse on top! Sue Fuss had a big hat with a paper flower and netting all around, JoAnne Weber decorated hers with utensils from her RV kitchen! All hats were very “original” and brought lots of comments and laughs from people who passed through the recreation hall! After the derby dinner consisted of Swedish Meatballs and delicious dishes provided by members! After cleanup we played cards for the remainder of the evening. Sunday morning we all met at the recreation hall for another great breakfast cooked by the staff at Crystal Isles. We soon had to say “Happy Trails” to everyone, and wished each other safe travels over the summer. Our next official group campout will be November 2 – 5 at Riverside RV Resort near Port Charlotte, Florida. We invite anyone traveling in the area to come join us! We love visitors! Nancy Miller
