CALOOSA WINNIES

Local Chapter
November 2006 Outing

By Nancy Miller

The Caloosa Winnies kicked off the fall campout season November 2 – 5, 2006 at Riverside RV Resort, in Arcadia, Florida. We were delighted to have the Space Coast Winnies join us for the weekend! We had a total of 19 coaches in attendance, with perfect weather for Florida in November.

Happy Hour got things off to a great start at 4pm with introductions and sharing of RV stories. Dinner was Pot Luck with Swedish Meatballs and all the trimmings provided by the groups. Ice cream sundaes with all the toppings took care of dessert, and we settled in with various card games for the remainder of the evening.

Friday morning was the pancake and sausage breakfast with all kinds of fruit toppings. Zeline Wishing provided all the materials for a craft project. We had fun making a pumpkin out of a roll of toilet paper, covered with orange material and decorated with greens. We later used these pumpkins as table decorations for the rest of the weekend.

Happy Hour convened at 4pm, and then we caravanned to Cap’n & Cowboy Restaurant nearby for dinner. Back at the recreation hall we all enjoyed the movie, “RV” starring Robin Williams. We all had a lot of laughs watching this movie to say the least!

Saturday morning we cooked “Omelets in a Bag” after everyone assembled their choices in their bags. Everyone enjoyed breakfast which also included dishes prepared by the group. At 10am both groups had their separate business meetings, then adjourned for lunch and prepared for the exciting beanbag baseball game. We divided up the 2 groups into 4 teams, and then held a playoff to determine the winners. Team # 1 was the winner with members JoAnne Buckley, Mary Ragona, Frank Whisenant, Judy Block, Jerry Miller, and Don Hawthorne taking home the prizes – a bag of peanuts!! All participants had a great time as well as the spectators!

A special Thanksgiving Dinner was on tap for the evening. Lee & Zeline Wishing cooked 2 turkeys over a fire pit and with charcoal, covered with a trash cans that served as ovens!

Many of us gathered around to watch this interesting process, and shared in Happy Hour at the same time. Dinner was served and enjoyed by everyone with such a display of Thanksgiving traditions – LOTS of food! After dinner, Thumper Volkmer challenged everyone with a puzzle to make with plastic pipes. It certainly was a visual piece to try and copy as it was spinning overhead. One team did actually finish the puzzle and were declared the winners. The rest of the evening the group divided up and played card games.

Sunday morning breakfast was donuts, bagels, rolls, coffee and juice before we bid our farewells. We certainly enjoyed the weekend as a combined group and look forward to having another one on 2007.

Anyone traveling in our area or coming for the winter – please come join us! We love to have visitors. Check “Who’s Inviting Travelers” for our dates and places!
