DuBol Winnies

April 2008 Outing

By Donna Weitzel

Some people say that summer is the time to be outside but the Du-Bol Winnies felt that paradise had arrived when they held their April campout at the KOA Campground in Lake Park, Georgia.  Quite a few of the coaches arrived a day early on Wednesday with the majority arriving on Thursday, April 17th.  Nineteen coaches attended the campout with two attendees starting out as guests and ending up as members (Lynn and Skip Breedlove).  A lot of catching up made setup take longer than usual as groups gathered to greet and socialize – while occasionally stopping to hook up cable or water etc.  Most of the group went to the Farmhouse for supper.  Southern cooking doesn’t come any better. Our hosts for the weekend were Sue and Jim Poss and Genie and Jack Carmody.

Friday the ladies had a craft hour with Sue Poss and came back sporting new bracelets.  The weather was so fantastic that the group decided to have an impromptu cookout.  Bring your own meat and a side dish.

Boy can these people come up with a lot of food on a few moments notice.  We all have our priorities in the right place.  After the cookout some of the members attended the Line Dancing party next to the campground, others played cards and of course a lot of the members just sat around outside and enjoyed twilight in paradise.

On Saturday our hosts had set up fried chicken for our enjoyment with the members providing side dishes.  We all rationalized that we “never” eat fried food at home and this was just the thing to complete our weekend of southern cooking.  Everyone produced more food and recipes were exchanged.  After dinner a Chinese auction was held with the proceeds going to the Hope Therapy Program.  This is a charity which uses supervised horseback riding for mentally and physically disabled adults and children.  Everyone had brought their “treasures” from home (and some who could not part with their treasurers bought new treasures) for the auction.  The club raised $183.00 for Hope Therapy.  All were elated at the success of the auction and fondly took back their newly acquired treasurers to be placed in their land homes or RV’s.

Sunday a continental breakfast got us ready for our trek homeward.  Several coaches stayed over another day but most of us had to get back to the “real” world.  PS We had so much fun at the impromptu cookout that the group decided to have one on Friday night of each campout – weather permitting.
