Du-Bol Winnies, local Chapter December 2007 Outing by Gloria Caffrey Twenty coaches enjoyed a festive holiday weekend at Oaks N Pines RV Park in Lake City, Florida for the December DuBol Winnies meeting. No snow this weekend, we arrived in sunny, warm conditions, which lasted most of the weekend. Most of the members arrived on Thursday and visited outdoors during Happy Hour, and then drove into Lake City for some good food at Texas Roadhouse. Following dinner the faithful card players assembled in the clubhouse for Push Rummy, and could be found there many times over the next two days. On Friday, several cars left for shopping and antique hunting in the nearby town. The ladies gathered in the afternoon for a splendid craft, led by Cindy Hoffren where we made Christmas trees from wire hangers, garland and lights, and oh yes, LOTS of masking tape. The trees turned out beautifully…every one different and just the perfect size for the front dashboard of our motorhomes. Saving our cooking skills for later, most of the group ate out at the (haunted!!) Telford Inn in White Springs or the local Phisheads Restaurant. The Club conducted its business meeting on Saturday morning, welcoming new members, Jack & Genie Carmody, and Norman Williams and his daughter Gracie Getz. President Margaret Mocko read a heartwarming thank-you letter from the ladies who run Hope Therapy, the recipient of the club’s charitable donation of $900.00 from our November auction. After the meeting the club officers busied themselves with setting-up the clubhouse for the annual Christmas party and potluck dinner. Honorary members, Harold & Mary Ellen Curry joined us for a ham dinner provided by SunCoast RV, the club sponsor, and the many delectable dishes prepared by the members. Yes, we still can cook!! The Hoffrens then played Mr and Mrs Claus and distributed the “loot” from the gift exchange. Thunderstorms during the night woke up the light sleepers, and surprised us on Sunday AM with some chilly temperatures…just enough to keep us in the holiday spirit. After hot coffee and pastries, we said our good-byes, wishing all a very Merry Christmas, and prayers for good health, good friends and good times in the upcoming year.
