DuBol Winnies

Local Chapter

January 2007 Outing

Sixteen DuBol Winnies coaches braved the cold and met Floridians from all over the state at the January Winnie Gators state meeting at the Lake Park KOA Campground in Lake Park, Georgia.  Early arrivals enjoyed touring the historic area and a few new eclectic shops of Valdosta as well as the Valdosta Mall.  The state meeting kicked off on Thursday with a Welcome Hors D’oeuvre Buffet with beer and wine which was a great opportunity to meet and mingle with other clubs.  During the party, we were treated to some lively jazz music by a local middle school band….what a talented group of kids!!

SunCoast RV in Winter Garden, Florida sponsored this weekend, and made sure that we never went hungry or were never bored.  We were served catered breakfast on Friday and Saturday mornings and catered dinners on Friday and Saturday evening.  Since the weather remained cold, it was a great opportunity to spend the evenings indoors and dance to the music of the Juke Box band.  For those less fleet of foot, there were games of cards, dominoes and Bingo happening in Campers Den.  For those wishing to brave the outdoors, there were several new Winnebago and Itasca RVs to tour in the parking lot.  On Friday morning our club held the business meeting and we were privileged to have Dick and Mikki Dodge attend and install our officers.  The Dodges were presented with a wooden name sign for their coach, which was hand-made by Bob Bischoff and which the Dodges won at our club’s November charity auction.   On Saturday afternoon, the campground manager hosted a Red Hat tea party for the ladies where she guided us in making beaded bracelets, earrings, and other womanly accessories.  Many of the campers enjoyed trips to the Farmhouse Restaurant and the Outlet Mall on the other side of the highway, and couldn’t help but notice the “gas price wars” going on.  The winning station got as low as $1.80.9 per gallon for regular.  Sunday morning we awoke to warmer temperatures, but had to say our good-byes after a continental breakfast and after getting some of that cheap gas.  We look forward to seeing our friends from the other Florida clubs again in March at the big state rally.
