Du-Bol Winnies

May 2008 Outing

by Gloria Caffrey

Leaving the “coolness” of northeast Florida, 8 Du-Bol Winnies coaches left the comforts of home and headed south to Lazy Days in Seffner, Florida, for the WinnieGators May state meeting.  Four coaches arrived on Wednesday and enjoyed dinner at Macaroni Grill, then browsed through  the Used RV Lot until dark. The rest of the group arrived on Thursday.  It’s always fun to watch an RV park fill-up with Winnebago/Itasca coaches for these state meetings, and to welcome the arrivals.  On Thursday night the Du-Bols gathered for a cook-out at the Aldridge’s coach and participated in the activity we do best…eating.  The Lazy Days complex always provides plenty of things to do, from meals at the Café, to looking at the beautiful new motorhomes, or shopping at Camping World. And we all did it all.

Friday kicked off the official start of the Winnie Gators meeting with a seminar on a variety of insurance topics by Linda Smart of the Florida Dept of Financial services.  We enjoyed her down-home sense of humor and the wealth of information she provided on financial and insurance issues.  Then it was time for Happy Hour, and a chance to win the 50/50 drawings and to support the club charity.  We enjoyed a delicious spaghetti dinner, then some members joined another club for an evening game of Bingo while others played their own card games.

On Saturday we dutifully attended the club’s general membership meeting, then ate hot dogs at the Café and again at Camping World.   A representative from Camping World paid us an afternoon visit and passed out goodie bags from her store.  Feeling pretty thirsty from all those hotdogs, we met again for Happy Hour, with beer and wine provided by the club, and another chance to part with our money for raffle tickets and prizes.   Rainbow Caterers cooked up another good meal, with plenty of food for all.

After lots of hot, dry weather, we awoke to light rain on Sunday morning.  We said our good-byes over coffee and donuts,  with many members making plans to meet in July at the much anticipated GNR.  Our thanks to the club officers, especially Linda & Dan Tuzzulo for a wonderful weekend of fun and fellowship.
