DuBol Winnies November
2006 outing Northeast Florida The DuBol Winnies hit the road in all directions in November. Eight member coaches met in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on November 3 and spent the next five days enjoying the beach, the fabulous shows, the shopping and the sights. We departed on November 8 and spent the night at Brookwood RV Resort in Metter, GA, where the campground hosts treated us like long lost relatives. The next day we arrived in Perry, GA for the first WIT SouthEastern Regional rally, where 12 DuBol Winnies coaches joined nearly 200 WIT coaches for a weekend of seminars, entertainment, vendor displays, good food and lots of talk. The Caffreys and Bischoffs took a side trip to the Andersonville National Historic Site, where Bob Bischoff located the grave of his great-great-great grandfather who died while a Union prisoner in the camp. After Perry, 4 coaches traveled west surrounded by magnificent fall color to Georgia’s Pine Mountain Campground where we enjoyed marshmallow roasts and cooking out in a beautiful, rustic setting. We had a great time touring Callaway Gardens, Warm Springs, FDR’s Little White House, and the FDR State Park. Thankfully, we survived the worst of a horrible storm with high winds and driving rains, with no damage to our coaches. On November 16 we rejoined the DuBol Winnies at the Lake Park, GA, KOA for our November meeting. Nineteen member coaches attended and we welcomed our guests, Dick & Mikki Dodge, the Eastern area WIT representatives. Thursday evening we dined at the FishNet, a quaint little fish camp on a lake that needed a good blast of rain. Friday left us to our own devices, until late afternoon when we met for Happy Hour to watch club videos of 17 years ago. We laughed as many of our current and honorary members performed various skits during Orlando state rallies….before paid entertainment. Some of us never knew our members, such as Ben & Millie Grunig, and Jim & Cindy Hoffren had such diverse talents. We reminisced about days gone by and warm, fond memories of those no longer with us, but definitely not forgotten. Following Saturday continental breakfast we conducted the business meeting and re-elected the current club officers. On Saturday afternoon, Susan Bushroe showed us how to make “ribbon roses” and Sue Poss & Jean Aldridge guided us through the assembly of beaded sleeve pins. Meanwhile, the Dodge’s conducted an open house so we could see the latest features of the 2007 Itasca Ellipse. Happy Hour was hosted at Bob & Joyce Bischoff’s new 2007 Winnebago Adventurer, with tours of their lovely new motorhome and an outdoor wine & cheese party. Feeling happy, the entire group then gathered at the Farmhouse Restaurant for a delicious Thanksgiving feast, with all the trimmings. Following dinner we all met back at Camper’s Den for our annual charity auction. Over 40 items, ranging from useful to silly to yummy, were donated by club members. Jack Caffrey, the auctioneer, entertained us with his great sense of humor and prodded us into higher bids as he nurtured our competitive nature. At evening’s end we raised over $700 for the Prader-Willi Foundation. On Sunday morning we said our good-byes over coffee and donuts, thanked our hosts, the Grunigs and the Poss’s for a wonderful weekend, and wished all a safe trip home and a Happy Thanksgiving.
