Du-Bol Winnies, Local Chapter Novenber 2007 By Gloria Caffrey Seventeen DuBol coaches enjoyed a beautiful, but chilly weekend at Casey Jones RV Park in Lake City, Florida for the November meeting. Most of the group arrived on Thursday, and donned the sweaters and jackets before heading out to Phisheads, a local seafood restaurant for dinner: good seafood and excellent chicken wings!! Some of the members gathered after dinner for a game of Push Rummy while the others turned their heaters on to ward off the fall chill. On Friday, some of the members visited Webb’s Antique Mall, a HUGE facility with an unbelievable selection of old and older items, while other members visited Lake City stores. We all met for afternoon Happy Hour and spaghetti dinner prepared by honorary members Harold and Mary Ellen Curry. “Handsome Harold” still prepares a great pot of spaghetti and we certainly enjoyed seeing them once again. We awoke on Saturday to frost on the ground and temps of 29 degrees. Much too cold for such thin-blooded Floridians!! The sun soon warmed things up for our business meeting. We welcomed our guests, Richard & Kathy Bramlett, new owners of a 2006 Meridian, who joined our club. We also elected new officers for 2008: Jennie Pikula, President; Jack Weitzel, Vice President; Donna Weitzel, Secretary, and Cindy Hoffren, Treasurer. The card players got together again on Saturday afternoon while the men inflated RV tires, and changed the flat on Jean Aldridge’s Jeep. We all gathered for a late afternoon/early Thanksgiving dinner of turkey, ham and all the fixin’s prepared by a local hotel. Everything was delicious. True to tradition, we reconvened after dinner for our annual charity auction, where members donate nice items and Jack Caffrey, the auctioneer, convinces us to out-bid each other and spend inordinate amounts of money for things like homemade cakes, food dehydrators and battery operated light bulbs. For the next 2 ½ hours, Jack entertained us with his unique sense of humor and at evening’s end, we collected over $900.00 for our charity, Hope Therapy, which provides supervised horseback riding for mentally and physically disabled adults and children. Great job, Jack….we look forward to doing it again next year. Sunday morning we met for the last time over coffee and pastries. We thanked our hosts, Ben & Millie Grunig and Jim & Sue Poss for a great weekend. We went home a little poorer but happy and thankful for our many blessings.
