Du-Bol Winnies, Local Chapter October 2007 Outing By Gloria Caffrey The Caffreys and the Aldridges made the trip south for the October Florida WinnieGators state meeting in Sarasota. Arriving early paid off with a trip to Troyer’s Dutch Heritage Restaurant with the group for a home-style cooking Amish dinner, topped off with delicious pies. The state club provided plenty of indoor activities with catered meals, games, and wine & cheese party to escape the oppressive heat and humidity. Nine DuBol coaches met the next weekend in Callahan, Florida at Kelly’s Countryside RV Park. Even though it was a bit cloudy and rainy, we all enjoyed the cooler weather and outdoor Happy Hours. Early arrivals convened at St John’s Seafood restaurant for a variety of good seafood dinners. On Friday, plans to attend the local town fair and rodeo were scrapped due to rain and mud, but the group found plenty of opportunity to socialize over card games, puzzles and sharing pictures of summer trips. Following Saturday breakfast, the club conducted its business meeting. We decorated the clubhouse for Halloween and then ate too much candy while watching the Florida Gators lose to the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon. We kicked off our Saturday evening potluck dinner with presenting a WIT Honorary Membership certificate to Jerry Gerard, a founding member of the DuBols, which was accepted by his daughter Judy Houghton. After dinner the card players gathered for Push Rummy, and the determined puzzlers finally finished the Betty Boop puzzle. Sunday morning we said our good-byes over a continental breakfast, looking forward to more cool weather at the next campout.
