Funtime Travelers

April 2007 Newsletter

April 20-22 were the dates for our chapter’s campout at Harbor Lakes Encore Resort at Port Charlotte, Florida. Nine coaches were in attendance, Phyllis Clinton, Harlan & Barb Evans, Bud and Paula Geng, Phil & Shirley Halstead, Ted & Evelyn Meekma, Dave & Betty McLauchlin, Frank & Donna Randolph and Jim & Mary Stoddard. Nancy & Jerry Miller, president & vice-president, respectively, of the Caloosa Winnies, joined us as our guests for the weekend.

After settling in on Friday afternoon (some of us even took a short nap) our first order of business was that all-important Happy Hour! That was followed by a potluck dinner, with the main entry being one of Bud Geng’s fabulous spaghetti dinners. And I have to admit, it was one of Buds absolute best! Everyone raved about it!

After dinner we sat around and talked and some of us got a game of “31” going, and had fun with that!

Saturday morning we had a pitch in breakfast along with the scrambled eggs, juice and coffee provided by our hosts. Another excellent meal!

We held our chapter meeting Saturday morning, and were pleased to have Nancy and Jerry Miller, of the Caloosas, give us some helpful information about recruiting new members for our chapter. We are struggling right now due to the fact that membership has declined and haven’t been too successful in getting new members. We appreciate Nancy and Jerry’s help in telling us what helped them with their chapter.

Saturday noon, time for lunch, and what do you suppose was on the menu? More of Bud Geng’s spaghetti and meatballs! He had made such a big batch the night before that there was plenty left over, and we all enjoyed it again!!

Saturday afternoon we had a beanbag baseball game, two of them in fact, and as much as I hate to admit this, the men beat the women, both games! But they were gracious losers, and we had a lot of fun! Charlie and Ellen Zucker, of the Caloosa’s, joined us for the afternoon and evening. Charlie’s antics entertained us throughout the games, including his body slide trying to pick up a beanbag!

Saturday evening, we went to the Red Lobster for dinner, and then back to the clubhouse for a game of “Hand & Foot” for some, and just plain old visiting by the rest! We were entertained by Jim Stoddard’s card tricks! That guy should go on the road! He’s great!

Sunday morning found us all back at the club house for our continental breakfast. Then it was time, once again, for “goodbye hugs” for another season! Many thanks to our hosts for the campout, Bud & Paula Geng and Jim & Mary Stoddard, for a great weekend!
