FUNTIME TRAVELERS

                                                       January 2003 Campout

The campout for January 17, 18, 19, 2003 with the Winnie   - Gators State Club was held at Tropical Palms Resort in Kissimmee. Despite the cold chill all our members enjoyed the State meeting, and seeing old friends again.  On Friday we met at mile marker number 238 and continued to Tropical Palms Resort.  Friday night some adventurous campers ventured out to the Moose Club, which had a band and light refreshments.   Mid-Florida Winnies joined us, plus Sheila, the daughter of Syble Waldron who shared our evening of festivities.

Two young sisters, who were camping with their parents, left the campground on Saturday afternoon, for a hike in the woods and were lost until Sunday morning.  The Police and the sheriff’s office brought in bloodhounds. Helicopters were in the air through the night and in to the morning.

Sunday morning all of the campers awoke to a knock on their doors by county sheriffs who showed a picture of the two girls and asked campers if they had seen the missing girls. The girls were finally found across the street from the campground, cold and glad to be rescued.

Sunday at the Devotional Service, led by Barbara King, Ted Meekma sang “The Our Father”.   A very inspiring service and we left feeling happy the weekend ended on a great note for the sisters, and us.
