Funtime Travelers

May 2002 Outing
By Anne & Dean Crewdson

The Wild Frontier Campground in Ocala, FL, was the gathering place of 65 Winnie-Gators of which 7 coaches belonged to the Funtime Travelers.  Members who attended included:  Clinton/Dickelman, Crewdson, Fuller, Geng, Halstead, Marlatt, and Waldron.

We first must mention the weather.  The Crewdsons and Marlotts arrived early on Wednesday, May 15.  The weather was much different than down South when we left home.  For two days we had pleasant days and cool nights--no need for air conditioning; well worth the early arrival.  But, by the weekend it was back to Florida normal.

The weekend began as usual, setting up, visiting and a happy hour which was catered by "Recreation USA" and the campground.  In fact, "Recreation USA" and the campground catered 2 happy hours, 2 dinners -- roast pork on Friday and turkey on Saturday.  They also catered breakfast and hot dog picnic lunch on Saturday.  We're looking forward to a return trip next year.  Saturday included the Winnie-Gators general meeting and a tune-up for GNR's beanbag baseball tournament.

After continental breakfast on Sunday goodbyes were said as many were leaving directly from this campout to their summer destinations up North.  Those of us staying in Florida returned to our homes looking forward to September when our next camping season begins at Sun Lake Resort, Ruskin, FL, September 27-29, 2002.
