Travelers, Local Florida Chapter: Chapter campout, November 15-17, 2002, Little Willie's RV Resort, Arcadia, FL. We could hear our shoes squishing during the weekend as we traveled from our coaches to the clubhouse. Umbrellas, boots and slickers were in order. This campout was really a Florida experience - instead of sun and heat we were treated to steady, heavy rain. Rain started Friday evening and continued through Sunday morning with flood and tornado watches Saturday afternoon. Two of our coaches experienced some water leaking through the roof. Ten coaches arrived and after set up was completed we gathered at Frank and Donna Randolph's coach for happy hour since the weather was still pleasant. Jerry and Dee Fuller, our hosts for the weekend, had the weekend thoroughly planned but now had to made a few adjustments due to the weather. Saturday we made our way through falling rain, inches of standing water on grass and streets in order to get to the clubhouse for our potluck breakfast. Jerry had a little challenge finding a dry spot to get the smoker-cooker going for the turkey, but never fear this hosting team had everything under control. Of course, our traditional beanbag baseball game had to be held indoors, but that didn't stop the Clinton team from taking the series two games to none over the Fuller team. By Sunday morning the standing water had diminished and we made our way to the clubhouse for breakfast. Temperatures had dropped overnight and the hot coffee sure tasted good along with the variety of rolls and juice. Another weekend of great companionship, food and games had come to an end. Let's hear that applause for our great hosts, Jerry and Dee Fuller! Contact: Ward and Helen Marlatt, Co-Presidents 941-753-9273 e-mail: cwhcmarlatt@msn.com |
