JONES Mid-Florida Winnies Celebrate 30 Years The
Mid-Florida Winnies are proud to be celebrating their 30th year
as a WIT club. Of course we
always celebrate our birthday in April, but this month was very special.
We had 15 motor homes in attendance.
Our membership increased by four motor homes this weekend. The
hosts for the event were the current officers.
We decided to go back in time when the girls wore bobby socks,
jeans, Dad’s old white shirt and poodle skirts; the guys wore black
leather jackets, white T-shirts, DA’s and crew cuts.
Yes, it was the 50’s and 60’s for the weekend. We started out on Friday night with the all time teen
favorites of hamburgers, chips, Root Beer floats (A&W of course) and
Cherry Coke. Trivia games
were played to see how much we could remember of those days.
It’s amazing how much we can remember about those days.
Saturday
night was our big night starting with cake and ice cream for our birthday
and then on to a Sock Hop with lots of great music played by our own DJ,
Don “Scoot” Fay. Most
came dressed for the time period. Yes,
there were poodle skirts, saddle oxfords, bobby socks, black leather
jackets and even a DA hairstyle.
During the evening the DJ would stop for Burma Shave commercials.
Different members would hold up the signs and walk across the dance
floor. It was a fun, fun
night. Sunday
morning the group was served pancakes, coffee and juice.
The conversation around the breakfast table was all about the party
on Saturday night. Come
join us for our next meeting, September 24-26, 2004 at Southern Palms in
