Mid-Florida Winnies
Our February meeting was held the 2nd to the 4th, 2007 in the Old Mill
Stream RV Pk in Umatilla,
FL. We shared facilities with the Ocala
Sunbirds, and everyone had a good time together. But...several
of our group came a day early so they were in their motor homes when
the tornado struck the Villages just 10 miles to our west, lifted over
Umatilla, and came down again 10 miles to our east in Paisley.
So those folks had a wild ride that Thursday night. Otherwise
the weekend was wet but calm!
Hosts were the Monzillos, Trads and Richardson and the Sunbird hosts
who provided a bountiful breakfast of pancakes and waffles, and a ham
dinner with beans and scalloped potatoes. Pot luck on Friday
also was shared with favorite dishes from both chapters. Friday
night Ruth Monzillo organized a game of Crazy Cards. The male
winner was from our chapter...Harry Jones, and the female looser was
his wife Lois. A good laugh was had by everyone. Saturday
afternoon, our chapter met to paint designs on aprons for our task as
food servers at the March rally. There were many clever and
colorful paint jobs with a few smudges on faces and hands. That
evening, our own special troupe of Mid-Florida Strummers entertained
with an hour of lifely, toe-tapping music. Dick Warner played
guitar and Dell Warner strummed the dulcimer and sang a song.
Bill Jackson is a strummer with his wife Judy doing so well on the
hammered dulcimer. Lois Jones sing, plays dulcimer and guitar,
and husband Harry plucks a base to add depth to the music.
Loretta Fiebrandt was a strummer and fiddler with her husband Bob
shaking the tambourine. Everyone seemed to enjoy the evening
with the variety of mountain folk songs the group plays.
Next morning the sun was up and everyone said their goodbyes until our
next gathering at State Rally in Orlando.
