Mid-Florida Winnies
November 2003 Outing

by Judy Jackson

The Mid-Florida Winnies met at Citrus Valley on November 14-16 with 11 member coaches present.  It was a full weekend with lots of good food, good camaraderie, and a few surprises.

On Saturday we spent most of the day visiting The Woodlands which is where the HERD Foundation (our charity) does its wonders to rehabilitate the "disabled" with therapeutic riding, hippotherapy, and adaptive horseback riding lessons.  We saw children with smiles on their faces and volunteers with tears in their eyes as these children were improving their physical, cognitive, and social development.  We were able to have lunch there and also tour the area.  All of our contributions to this fine charity go to scholarships for the participants.

Dorothy Williams was creative as usual in providing us with some fun activities.  She created a mock "Survivor Game" which ultimately involved everyone.  Mary Fay was our final survivor, but Bruce Cheatum entertained us with his acting ability, Lois Jones was very realistic with her "food poisoning," Bill Jackson was the cotton ball champion, and Barbara Baker was a great rock & roll dancer.  There were no losers on this island.

All this was sandwiched between some terrific meals prepared by the Monzillos and the Trads plus a potluck on Friday evening.  We even had a newly engaged couple.  Barbara Baker & Jim Wittulski will be married in January.  Congratulations to both of you.

We were blessed with bright sunshine, 75 degree weather, good food, good friends.  Some of our upcoming activities include our annual Christmas Party in December, our Charity auction in February and also a talent show in February.  We're looking forward to a fun year.
