Panhandle Winnies

Local Chapter
January 2005 outing

       By Barbara Partrick

The Panhandle had been enjoying above average temperatures but this weekend sunny, breezy days and cool nights embraced our members at the first outing of 2005.  Eleven rigs gathered at Sunset King RV Resort in DeFuniak Springs, Florida on January 14-16.  Sunset King RV Resort is north of DeFuniak Springs located on beautiful King Lake.  A few rigs arrived Thursday for early socializing with the remainder arriving Friday.  Our weekend kicked-off with a pot-luck dinner Friday followed by cards and visiting.

Saturday morning members met at the Resort Restaurant for breakfast.  The food was good, service great, and we didn’t have to wash dishes or clean up.  The regular business meeting was held at 9:00 a.m. in the Meeting Room with much of the discussion focusing on the Panhandle Winnies 20th Anniversary celebration in February.  Rae Snyder volunteered to make a 20th Anniversary Quilt as a raffle item.  Other members offered items for the raffle.

Saturday afternoon being a sunny, breezy day, some members walked around the lake, others went to the Chautauqua Winery locate off Interstate 10 while others rested and watched football.  Saturday evening we caravanned to Fannin’ Restaurant to enjoy shrimp, oysters, catfish, and steak.  Thanks to Norma and Bryce Littlefield for arranging this outing and leading the way.  Those of us not familiar with the area could have easily missed the back road.

That evening a few couples met at the Lake’s restaurant with other campers to play bingo.  Other members returned to the club house for cards.  We all had a wonderful weekend and anxiously await our 20th anniversary outing at Palm Lake RV Campground, Foley, Alabama.
