Panhandle  Winnies
Local Chapter
By Jan Eichorst

Thanksgiving was celebrated by our Panhandle Winnies at the Lake Kristina
Campground on 15-17 November.  There were 18 member units taking part in
weekend social activities.  The Lake Kristina campground is located a short
7 miles east of Milton, FL on state road 191 and is set among a grove of
long needle pines with an easy walking trail and its own fishing pond.  For
those who are looking for more vigorous exercise, they can hike, run, or
bike on the nearby Blackwater Heritage State Trail that meanders for miles
through the Blackwater State Forest.

Our wagon masters for the weekend, Earle and Liz Hedenberg along with Gerry
and Nora Victorian, did an excellent job of decorating the club house and
setting up for the weekend's activities.  A good number of our group arrived
on Thursday and took part in an early Friday morning round of golf that led
them through 18 holes of the Naval Air Station Whiting Field course.  The
players said they didn't keep score, at least on the official card, but you
can be assured that excellent mental scores were noted if for nothing else
than bragging rights.  One player was asked how he did and answered that he
found 4 new golf balls.  He didn't say how many he lost in the process of
finding the new ones.  I guess that we will all have to go out and play to
find out the real scores.  It isn't known if the golfers or the recently
washed coaches drew the rain in on Friday afternoon but it came regardless.
Even though there were rain puddles throughout the campground, they didn't
dampen our Thanksgiving spirit or fellowship.
Friday evening started with a potluck meal that consisted of numerous
wonderful dishes that were a delight to those of us who wanted to taste them
all.  A couple of us did do well in accomplishing that goal.  The meal was
followed by several groups sitting down for several games of cards and
dominos as well as getting caught up on their recent travel adventures and
family activities.  The rain that joined us in the afternoon continued
throughout the night and brought with it our first touch of cooler weather.
The temperature dropped enough to force our members to break out the
sweaters and jackets.

Saturday morning allowed us to again taste the wonderful culinary delights
of our chapter chefs during the potluck breakfast.  Following the breakfast,
we held our monthly meeting during which the offices for 2003 were elected.
Bill Alumbaugh will be president, John Ware will be vice-president, and
Gerald Victorian will be our treasurer.   Nominations for the secretary
office will remain open until our December gathering.  After our chapter
meeting, members continued catching up on their activities while several
people ventured outdoors for short walks, since the rain had quit.  As
usual, there were those of us that were taking advantage of the closeness of
Pensacola and its shopping.  Saturday evening our wagon masters treated us
with delicious turkey and dressing that was accompanied by side dishes
brought by chapter members.  Our chapter sponsor, Carpenter's Campers out of
Pensacola, provided for the turkey and dressing, which was thoroughly
enjoyed by all of us.  Afterwards, several of the women joined in on a game
of Hand and Foot while a group of our men set about to enjoy themselves with
their own card game.  With those two card games on going, several of us
enjoyed conversation next to the large brick fireplace.  The oak log fire
and glowing coals thoroughly warmed us.

Sunday morning we were treated to bright sunshine and cool temperatures.
Our breakfast consisted of hot coffee, fresh fruit, and plenty of donuts and
pastries.  This put the final touch to the weekend giving us all a good
send-off until we meet again in December.  By mid-morning, we completed our
good-bys and good wishes until our next campout, which will be held December
13-15 at the Navarre Beach Campground, Navarre, FL.  That will be followed
by our January 24-26 campout at Southwind RV Park in Magnolia Springs, AL.
