South Florida Winnie-Gators

OCTOBER  2008  OUTING REPORT

By Marlene Sholtes

Our October campout was held at beautiful Upriver RV Resort.  We truly enjoy staying at this campground because the sites are big and level, 50 amp service, cable, a fantastic hall with a big kitchen, nice swimming pool and for those interested, a golf course right on the grounds.  We had twenty coaches attending this month.  The weekend was very warm and sunny, just the way we Floridians love it!  We started gathering on Thursday, and had planned  Hobo Soup for our meal.  Marcel Drapeau, our Soup Nazi, prepared and served the delicious soup.  This was later followed by our favorite game, Chase the Ace.  As usual, it becomes quite raucous during the game.  George Shaughnessy was the big winner!

Our Friday Happy Hour featured Raffle Babes-In-Training, Mo Shaughnessy and Sylvia Smith.  They did a fine job selling tickets and the winners were Sylvia Smith, Harvey Peacock and Florence Allen.  We were happy to see Jim & Florence Allen attend this campout because Jim recently underwent heart surgery and is now doing fine.  Friday’s meal consisted of spaghetti and meatballs and garlic bread.  The sauce was made from members contributing a jar of spaghetti sauce, one from each coach, and it always turns out very tasty.  We were visited by George & Marge Shaughnessy’s grandson, Lane, and his girlfriend, Kelly.  Our entertainment this evening was LCR, an interesting dice game.  The winners were Jan Miles, Charlie Travers and Damaris Travers.

Saturday breakfast was prepared by Rick Bunn, Bob Gill, W.C. Herndon and George Shaughnessy and Helen Herndon whipped up her Infamous Cheese Grits.  Yummy!  Our craft activity was led by Lee Macdonald & Sylvia Smith.  They showed 17 women how to make Angel Ornaments and Angel Pins.  They all came out heavenly.  Our Happy Halloween Hour was lively.  The Tantalizing Tigress Raffle Babes came roaring in to sell their raffle tickets.  Bartenders Joe Sholtes & Chuck Seager were quite scary, changing their masks regularly.  There was a coven of witches hovering around also.  Lotsa Fun!  We were visited by former member June Hobel, who lives nearby.  Bob & Joan Gill prepared an outstanding Chicken Marsala accompanied with noodles and Lee Macdonald’s Supreme Salad.  There were also many different veggies and desserts brought by the members.  Our visitors for dinner were the Campground Managers Carol & Mike.  Yankee Trader was the entertainment for Saturday night.  There were many great gifts that found their way from person to person.  If you really like what you get, guaranteed someone else will like it also and take it away!

After breakfast and our monthly meeting, we parted ways with hugs and kisses until we meet again next month.
