2005 Outing Report

By Lee Macdonald

23 rigs attended our April Outing at La Belle Woods Campground.  Members Barbara & Marcel Drapeau and Doc and Joan Murnahan and friend Kay Canfield attended the activities without their coaches.  We also welcomed Edna Heinz, guest of Harvey & Silvia Peacock. Thursday afternoon we gathered around, had happy hour and got caught up on news since the last outing. Many of the members went out to Boo Boo’s in La Belle that evening for dinner.

Friday morning for Crafts, some of the ladies gathered at the Tiki Hut with their sewing machines and produced beautiful lacy lighthouse sweatshirts. In the afternoon we all met at Linda & Bruce (‘Mr. Grumps”) Cheatum’s large comfortable shady campsite for champagne toasts hosted by our club’s new rig owners; Joe & Marlene Sholtes’ Journey, Charlie & Damaris Travers’ Suncruiser and Ed & Rose Weisman’s Adventurer. This is the second year that we have had 3 new rigs in the club by April following the March State Rally in Orlando. Just can’t resist the temptation walking thru all those beautiful new coaches on display. We all wished them many happy miles.

Bob & Joan Gill made smothered chicken for dinner which we all enjoyed with Marge’s yellow rice and Sylvia’s slaw.  We all played the fun game of Card Bingo led by Charlie & Damaris afterwards.

We all enjoyed a delicious breakfast of French toast and sausage deftly prepared by George Shaughnessy and WC Herndon. All of us assembled outside the clubhouse at 10:30 with our baskets and bags in hand for the start of our annual Easter Egg Hunt.  Becky Bunn directed her staff who hid over 200 eggs around the clubhouse grounds. At the word go over forty adults became children again as they scurried all over in quest of the hidden eggs,  When almost all the eggs were collected we assembled on the porch, opened them to get the candy and maybe a prize number hidden inside.  100 cute and useful prizes were given to the lucky number holders, W.C. Herndon did a great job grilling our strip sirloin steaks to order, no easy feat for over 50 people. We enjoyed them along with big baked potatoes and tossed Italian salad followed by decadent desserts.

Our monthly meeting was held Sunday morning and the membership unanimously accepted four new members. They are Ray & Grace Bibisi from Bradenton, Bob & Doris Kleinberg from Lake Worth, Andre & Andrea Meyers from Hollywood and Val & Ilona Osinski from Coral Springs. We hope to enjoy their company for a long time to come. After the meeting the outing ended and we all said our good-bys until next time we meet.
