APRIL 2006  OUTING REPORT

By Marlene Sholtes

Our April Outing was held at LaBelle Woods Campground.  17 rigs arrived on Thursday, and 4 arrived on Friday for a total of 21 members and 1 guest rig.  We all welcomed Bill and Pat Coad back after a long absence due to health problems.  Our evening meal consisted of members making heavy hors doeuvres.

Saturday morning activity was Arts & Crafts led by Marlene & Joe Sholtes.  They were ready for anyone who wanted to make crafts done in the past.  Sun visors, shirt painting, CD foam spinners, and sleeve pins were worked on.  Some members floated in the pool or braved the hot tub outside.

Bill and Marlene English had purchased a Horizon coach and celebrated with a champagne toast for everyone in the afternoon.  It was decided to order pizza for dinner.  Barbara Drapeau, Damaris Travers, and helper Pat Coad organized taking orders and purchasing the pizzas.  Some other members stayed in or went out to eat.

In the evening, Charlie and Damaris Travers led the Crazy Card game.  The winners were:  1st, Rick Bunn; 2nd Marlene English; 3rd Chuck Seager; and Last Place, Mo Shaughnessy.

Saturday morning breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage and hash browns was expertly made by George Shaughnessy, W.C. Herndon, and Rick Bunn.  The delicious biscuit ladies were Marge Shaughnessy, Helen Herndon, Becky Bunn and Marlyn Fischer.  Then the fun began!  Our annual Easter Egg Hunt.

After the egg hiding crew, consisting of Becky, Damaris, Mo Shaughnessy and Ed Weisman, hid 227 eggs filled with candy and tickets for 81 prizes, our mature members with baskets in hand, scrambled through briars and bushes to find them.  Almost all of them were found. We then assembled in the hall to collect their useful and valuable prizes.  Fun for one and all!

After that strenuous workout, it was back to the pool or relaxing under the shade of the trees.  At happy hour we were visited by the Raffle Bunnies, Becky and Damaris.  Again, there were many wonderful prizes.  Bartenders Joe Sholtes and George Morgan dispensed the beverages.

For dinner the steak was cooked to order, and was prepared by Rick Bunn, W.C. Herndon, and George Shaughnessy.  It is an amazing task to grill them for about 50 people, exactly as they were ordered.  Marijo Bierie had the task of taking orders from everyone all afternoon (she was very nervous because she is still on probation).  Bob and Joan Gill cooked the potatoes to perfection, and Lee Macdonald, Sylvia Smith and Becky Bunn tossed the salad with panache.  Members supplied many yummy desserts.  Card Bingo was conducted by Bob and Joan Gill.  Winners were:  Joan Seager (twice), Frankie Morgan, Jane Nunes, W.C. Herndon, and John Nunes.

Our monthly meeting was held Sunday morning.  We voted in and welcomed new members Butch and Pat Crosby, from Fort Meyers and Kansas.  Many of our snow-bird members are in the process of returning north.  After the meeting we all said our good-byes until next month.
