South Florida Winnie-Gators

APRIL  2007  OUTING REPORT

By Marlene Sholtes

LaBelle Woods Campground was the scene of our April campout.  We had 23 coaches attending plus one coach that stayed at nearby Ortona COE Park.  We were also visited by members Jan and Ed Miles on Saturday, and guest Kaylyn Stevenson, granddaughter of Bob and Joan Gill, who stayed most of the weekend.  We welcomed Bob and Diane O’Brien, back after a long absence due to problems with their new Horizon.  The weather was in the 90’s, close to a record for the area.  The pool was a refreshing way to get together and get caught up on news since our last outing.

Thursday evening John and Marijo Bierie introduced us to a new game played with dice, LCR (Left, Center, Right) which turned out to be quite a spirited game.  Lots of loud fun!  Friday morning, Pat Crosby set up a jewelry making class.  It was quite a professional production, and the members made beautiful bracelets and earrings.  Pat did a phenomenal job!  Joe Sholtes instructed a few more people on how to make Floating Flagpoles.  Our chapter now has quite a few flags flying every month.  Our Friday Happy Hour has a 50/50 Raffle, and the lucky winners were:  1st  Edna Heins; 2nd  Rose Weisman; and 3rd  Florence Allen.

Our meal on Friday was provided by Ray and Grace Bibisi.  They cooked authentic Italian sauce all day, and it was delicioso!  Members provided the healthy salads and yummy desserts.  Our entertainment for the evening was one of our favorite games introduced to us by Dick and Mikki Dodge, Chase the Ace.  We always have a hilarious time, and most of our members participate because it is so much fun.  Their were two games being played at the same time; and Chuck Seager, our perennial winner, won one game, and Sylvia Smith won the other.  Meanwhile, Harvey Peacock serenaded the rest of us, as we were eliminated, outside on the porch.

Saturday’s breakfast consisted of French Toast and Sausage, prepared by Rick Bunn, W.C. Herndon and Butch Crosby.  We needed the nourishment for the event that followed.  The Annual Easter Egg Hunt!  Approximately forty senior citizens and one teen gathered together, baskets in hand and Easter bonnets, to listen to the instructions of the hunt.  No running, no fighting, collect only ten eggs.

Then the whistle blew, and they were off!  There were over 360 plastic eggs hidden (in plain sight).  Most of them were found (including one from last year).  They contained candy and lucky prize numbers were in 107 of them.  Then we gathered in the hall to collect our winnings.  There were many useful as well as funny prizes, and Becky Bunn entertained us with her delightful talent for emceeing the prize distribution.

Our Saturday Happy Hour was visited by our Honey Bunny Raffle Babes, Becky Bunn and Damaris Travers, who did a great job as usual.

There were 25 great prizes.  Our Saturday dinner was another outstanding meal.  We had tasty grilled steaks, baked potatoes, salads and desserts.  So many members help put this meal together and do such a great job.  (Many hands make light work!)  Every delicious steak was cooked to order exactly!  Our entertainment for the evening was Yankee Trader.  Bottles of wine seemed to change hands quite often.

Our monthly meeting was held after breakfast and ended our outing until next month at Paradise Island in Ft. Lauderdale
