FEBRUARY  2007  OUTING REPORT

By Marlene Sholtes

Our February outing was once again held at the Marina RV Resort in Moore Haven on the banks of Lake Okeechobee.  The weather was balmy all weekend long.  We had 16 member rigs and one guest rig attending.  We had a champagne toast Thursday for Buddy and Alice Webb’s new-to-them Chieftain.  We wished them many happy and safe miles.  Almost every month one of our members is coming in with a new or pre-owned motor home.  Our meal for the evening was a delicious homemade hambone bean soup prepared by Lee Macdonald and Sylvia Smith.  Marijo Bierie brought marvelous corn muffins made from a secret recipe from her Grandmother Costco.  The campground provides an Ice Cream Social which we joined in with for dessert.

Our guests for the weekend were the Eastern WIT Representatives, Dick and Mikki Dodge.  They introduced us to a new card game “Chase the Ace”.  The players became quite raucous and a hilarious time was had by all.  Chuck Seager won, but it was a close finish!

Friday morning a few members went to breakfast at the Clewiston Inn.  It is a very pleasant atmosphere and they serve a variety of breakfast choices plus a full buffet.  The campground had a tag sale this morning with many nice craft items for sale.

Our Happy Hour took place out on the deck with a 50/50 Raffle.  The winners were: 1st Damaris Travers; 2nd Bob Schoening; and 3rd John Bierie.  Marijo Bierie, Raffle-Babe-in-Training, did a great job selling the tickets all by herself.  The campground fixes a nice meal, and many of us took advantage not having to cooking.  They served meat loaf, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, and topped off with a pudding dessert.  Later that evening, Harvey Peacock serenaded us with his singing and guitar for hours.  How he remembers all those words we can’t figure out!  Pat Crosby treated us to some Moose Crunch.  It was way too good!

Saturday morning the chapter treated members to the breakfast served by the campground.  After breakfast, we had our monthly meeting.  We then prepared the hall for our Valentine Dinner.  Rick Bunn and George Shaughnessy grilled pork chops, Barbara Drapeau prepared red potatoes, the members brought veggies and salads, and Alice Webb prepared her outrageously yummy Chocolate Trifle.  We were visited by Andrea and Andre Meyers who just stopped by for happy hour, dinner and stayed for the Valentine Dance featuring “Just Country”, a great sounding country band.

Sunday morning we said our goodbyes, until next month, at the Webb’s coach while we munched on muffins and pastry and coffee.
