JANUARY 2007  OUTING REPORT

By Marlene Sholtes

Marina RV Resort in Moore Haven on the banks of Lake Okeechobee was the site of our first outing of 2007.  The weather was perfect, 81 degrees with a warm breeze blowing off the lake.  17 rigs and one guest rig arrived on Thursday and one arrived Friday.  We were honored to have guests of members Ed and Rose Weisman, Debbie and Bob Wiersum who is the President of their Ohio Club, the Emerald Necklace Winnies.  Rick Bunn and Marcel Drapeau grilled up some hamburgers and cheeseburgers for our evening meal.  For dessert, Barbara Drapeau supplied a carrot cake and ice cream, in honor of her birthday.  (We wonder which birthday?)

Many duck hunters leave in their noisy airboats very early from this campground, like 5 AM!, letting us know it's time to rise and shine!  Joe and Marlene Sholtes had an Arts & Crafts project making hats to be worn at the March State Rally.  Everyone added their own touch to their hat.  They will look great for our job at the Rally.

We enjoyed our happy hour on the deck of the clubhouse.  Our 50/50 Raffle was a success with the help of Rose Weisman and Marijo Bierie selling the tickets.  The lucky winners were:  1st   Charlie Travers; 2nd   Rick Bunn; and 3rd   Marge Shaughnessy.  The campground prepares a delicious meal for $6, and many took advantage of not having to cook.  The campground also sponsored an all-you-can-eat for $1 Ice Cream Social, and that is also quite a treat.

The entertainment for the evening was a One-Man Band, Reese Thomas, and was enjoyed by many of our members who danced the night away.

The campground cooks up a bountiful breakfast buffet.  Our Club picked up the tab, and we had another break from the kitchen!  The weather was still warm and breezy, quite comfortable.  We had our monthly meeting after breakfast and swore in the new officers and board members for the year.

At happy hour, we were visited by the Duck-Hunting Duo Raffle Babes toting toy rifles and shooting a poor stuffed duck!  Becky Bunn and Damaris Travers do a fantastic job of entertaining us every month with their wild get ups.

We were treated to an evening meal of Deep-Fried Catfish (delicious!), Hush Puppies, and Cole Slaw cooked up by Bob Gill, George Shaughnessy, Joan Gill (hush puppies), and Damaris Travers (cole slaw).  Our entertainment for the evening was a game of Crazy Cards.  Damaris Travers and Joan Gill led the group of players and the winners were:  1st   Edna Heins; 2nd   Becky Bunn; 3rd   George Shaughnessy.  The Bobby Prize went to Silvia Peacock.

Sunday morning we met at the Travers rig to enjoy our coffee and muffins and bid adieu until we see each other next month.
