JUNE 2005 Outing Report

By Lee Macdonald

Our final outing of the season was held the first weekend in June at the Jolly Roger RV Park on Grassy Key located just north of Marathon in the Florida Keys. 16 rigs attended. The weather was a bit on the cloudy side for the first few days but improved as time went on.  The atmosphere was very laid back and it didn’t take long for everyone to get relaxed.

Thursday night most of the group went to dinner at the Key Colony Club Restaurant and enjoyed  lots of delicious seafood.  Mornings and afternoons were spent floating on our noodles and rafts in the warm shallow water right outside our coaches. Many of our rigs were parked right by the seawall and it was only a few steps into the water.  Meals and happy hours were held al fresco in the shade of the park pavilion.  Tropical breezes kept us cool and we enjoyed Rick Bunn’s collection of island music.

Friday’s supper of Cheeseburgers in Paradise was prepared by Marcel Drapeau and Ray Babisi and topped off with Ice Cream.  We helped Del & Joy Butcher celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary.  Afterwards we gathered on the seawall and waited for the sunset.

Saturday morning the assembly line consisting of Marcel Drapeau, Bruce Cheatum, Virgin Vandervlugt and Jane Nunes put together our breakfast of Winnie McMuffins.  We were glad to see Joe & Marlene Sholtes who arrived about mid-day with a bunch of gifts that Harberson Swanston RV had donated to our raffle.  Their rig became incapacitated on the way down and they made the trip by car from Naples for the day, showing real dedication.

Saturday evening dinner was pork tenderloins grilled by Marcel & seasoned by Barbara Drapeau.  A nice variety of sides and dessert were furnished by the members. Everything  was enjoyed.  After dinner and a so-so sunset we all gathered on the sea wall and were treated to an impromptu serenade by Harvey Peacock and his guitar. Harvey has a delightful voice and has an enormous repertoire of folk songs. We marveled at his talent and how he could remember the lyrics to so many songs.

Sunday we enjoyed cereal & fruit for breakfast and then held our monthly meeting.  We were pleased to induct our newest members Geff and Ingrid Purvis into our club.  Geff helped bring our meeting to a lively close by sharing a few jokes with us.  After the meeting we said our good-byes to those that were leaving. (About half of us were staying on for 4 more days.) Many of us will meet up at GNR in July and we are looking forward to our next meeting in September in Kissimmee.

HUSBAND & WIFE JOKE

A wife was making a breakfast of fried eggs for her husband. Suddenly her husband burst into the kitchen and said “Careful…CAREFUL!  Put in some more butter!”

“Oh my GOD! You’re cooking too many at once. TOO MANY!  Turn them!  TURN THEM NOW!”

“We need more butter. Oh my GOD! WHERE are we going to get MORE BUTTER?”

“They’re going to STICK! Careful…CAREFUL!  I said be CAREFUL! You NEVER listen to me when you’re cooking! Never! Turn them! Hurry up! Are you CRAZY? Have you LOST your mind?  Don’t forget to salt them. You know you always forget to salt them! Use the salt.

USE THE SALT!  THE SALT!”

The wife stared at him. “What the hell is wrong with you? You think I don’t know how to fry a couple of eggs?

The husband calmly replied.

“I wanted to show you what it feels like when I’m driving!”
