South Florida Winnie-Gators

JUNE 2006  OUTING REPORT

By Marlene Sholtes

Our final outing of the season was held at Jolly Roger RV Park on Grassy Key in the Florida Keys .  Another perfect weekend in paradise!  11 rigs and one guest rig attended.  The weather couldn't be better.  We soon adjusted to the relaxed Keys attitude and some jumped into the Gulf of Mexico to enjoy the beautiful water.  For dinner, most of us traveled to the Key Colony Inn and enjoyed their great seafood.  Former member Bob Engel and his wife Athene joined us as they were camping in the park for a few weeks.

On Friday, most of us were floating and socializing in the bay with our noodles and floating bar.  Ah, what a life!  We kept it simple for dinner with Rick Bunn, George Shaughnessy and Buddy Webb cooking up hot dogs and kielbasa and Becky Bunn prepared baked beans.  We awaited the sunset with margaritas served up by bartender Senor Jose Sholtes.

Saturday morning breakfast of Winnie McMuffins were prepared by Rick Bunn, George Shaughnessy and Bruce Cheatum.  Silvia and Harvey Peacock helped with the cleanup.  Great job!  The rest of the day found many of our members floating out there in the bay again.  Our happy hour Island Raffle Babes, Becky and Damaris, did another great job of selling tickets.  There were a few people who walked away with more than one prize, such as the Engels and Shaughnessys.  (Of course they bought many tickets in order to do this.)  Bartender Jose kept those margaritas flowing.  Our dinner was the traditional Cheeseburgers in Paradise grilled by Rick Bunn, George Shaughnessy, Charlie Travers, Jim Allen, Buddy Webb and Joe Sholtes.  Very tasty!

We celebrated Marge and George Shaughnessy's 58th wedding anniversary with a cake brought by their daughter Mo Shaughnessy.  Congratulations!  Alice and Buddy Webb's children were visiting them and joined us for dinner:  Buddy's daughters, Patty Ramirez and Donna Hmeler, and Alice's son and family, Tom and Cindy Bone and their children Brad and Audrey.  After another Keys sunset, we ventured over to the seawall and listened to Harvey Peacock strum his guitar and serenade us under the palm trees and tropical breezes.  End of a perfect day!

On Sunday morning, we had a light breakfast of pastries and fresh fruit prepared by Damaris Travers, Marge Shaughnessy, Jo Ann Smith and Marlene Sholtes.  Quite refreshing.  We then had our monthly meeting and welcomed our newest member Jo Ann Smith into the club.  We then parted ways until September (a few of us couldn't bear to leave and stayed for a few more days).
