South Florida Winnie-Gators

June 04  Outing Report
By Marlene Sholtes

The South Florida Winnies June campout was held at Jolly Roger Travel Park in Marathon, with 12 rigs attending.  Thursday evening some members went to the Key Colony and others went to Herbie's, and the rest stayed at the campground and fixed dinner.  All weekend members floated in the bay with their "noodles and socialized.  There were many lobsters hiding under the dock and would come out at night to feed. Some could be seen in the early mornings hours.
Friday night Becky and Rick Bunn announced they will become grandparents for the first time and provided champagne for a toast.  Congratulations!  Being a grandparent is the best part of life.  For dinner we had Hot Dogs cooked by Bob O'Brien. Damaris and Becky prepared chili and slaw the to go with the "dogs" and everyone ate and enjoyed the cover the pavilion offered.
Saturday morning found George Shaughnessy cooking up a club special "Winnie McMuffins" while others, Bob O'Brien and Joan Gill stirring-up hash browns.  Breakfast was awesome.  Lunch time some drove over to the 7-mile bridge Grill.  The weather was warm so most floated around the water until cocktail hour.  Del Butcher and Ken Perry tended bar while George Morgan kept the "Margaritas" flowing.  Our club D.J. Rick Bunn provided Island music.  Everyone received a lie from our "Raffle Babes"who were attired in Island outfits, complete with lobster hats.  Mo Shaughnessy didn't win any raffle prizes--How unusual!!! Dinner consisted of "Cheeseburgers in Paradise" cooked to perfection by Bob O'Brien and Joe Sholtes.  The members provided salads and desserts.  An anniversary cake was provided by the Shaughnessy's along with more champagne to toast their 56th wedding anniversary.  Congratulation's to both of them.  There was a perfect sunset that evening to end a fabulous weekend in the Keys.  I don't think there are prettier sunsets in the world then in the keys.
Sunday morning George Shaughnessy whipped up some eggs and ham.  New member Lynn DeSepio made a delicious angel food cake made with fruit and whipped cream along with a bowl of fruit.
We had our monthly meeting and afterwards said our good-byes, wishing each other safe journeys throughout the summer until we meet again at GNR or at Rally Park in September.
