MARCH
2006 OUTING REPORT By
Marlene Sholtes Most
rigs came in on Thursday. Damaris
and Charlie Travers hosted an after-dinner get together with Irish Coffee
and ice cream. Deslish!
Our President Rick and Becky Bunn could not attend due to family
commitments. We missed them. Vice
President Charlie Travers assumed the role of Commander-in-Chief.
On
Friday afternoon many of us drove to Parksdale Farms for the best
strawberry shortcakes ever! Happy
hour took place at the Travers rig and Bob O'Brien whipped
up Strawberry Marqaritas. He
certainly knows how to make them good with his Magic Bullet!
At this time Charlie presented Lee Macdonald with a plaque for her
five years as secretary for our club.
Lee has worked hard for us and will continue to be a valuable
asset. Our
craft session consisted of making another shirt for the upcoming State
Rally. Lee Macdonald
submitted the winning pin design for the Rally.
She then made transfers and ironed them on white shirts for the
members to wear at the Rally. This was quite a workout for Lee, but she
did a great job. Joe Sholtes
helped some of our guests make CD spinners in various
designs. Our
happy hour was wild! We had
Irish Raffle Babes, Damaris Travers and Barbara Erin Drapeau
dressed up with green hair and wearing very shamrocky
outfits. There were many
raffle prizes. Two Giant
Leprechauns, Joe Sholtes and Chuck Seager, tended the bar.
We then dined on corned beef and cabbage, with desserts supplied by
the members. The cooks, WC
Herndon, George Shaughnessy, Bob Gill and Jim Wilson, worked all day
preparing the meal. In the
evening some of us played Card Bingo.
Ray Bibisi was our caller and Joan Gill and Grace Bibisi helped.
The winners were Marge Shaughnessy, Marlene Sholtes, Peter
Vandervlugt, Dick Dodge, Marlene English and the big prize winner was
Ethel Allen. At
our monthly meeting held on Sunday morning, we introduced the new WIT
Eastern Representatives, Dick and Mikki Dodge, who announced some upcoming
events. 23 rigs met again a
few days later at the Florida State Rally to fulfill our assignments as
parkers. Bill
and Marlene English were in charge of parking and did an outstanding job!
The members who worked on parking also did a wonderful job.
Everyone did their assigned jobs and more! Monday
night we enjoyed heavy hors d'oeuvres with Mid-Florida Winnie
Gators who were the greeters for the Rally.
After parking Tuesday, we had a pizza party coordinated by Damaris
and Barbara; Margaritas provided by Senor Roberto O'Brien
and Injun Joe Sholtes and Captain Chuck Seager
dispensing the other beverages. Our
50/30/20 was won by Alice Webb, Bill English and George Shaughnessy. Rose
Weisman and Virgin Vandervlugt did a great job as our 50/30/20
Babes both nights. After
parking many coaches all day Wednesday, we dined on hors d'oeuvres,
shrimp, salads, and desserts, again coordinated by Damaris and Barbara.
They did a fantastic job! The
Giant Leprechauns Joe and Chuck returned to man the bar.
Our second 50/30/20 lucky winners were Jim Allen, Marge Shaughnessy,
and Charlie Travers. Then the Rally began. Our members walked away with many awards. A hilarious time was had by all when Bob O'Brien and Sylvia Smith won the Toilet Bowl Race. We all cheered quite loudly for them! Joe Sholtes was the Hat Lady and caused quite a stir among the crowds. The hat had $100 attached to it and was won by Helen Herndon. Raffle prizes were won by Jim Allen and Virgin Vandervlugt. There was a contest to find who had a Snipe on their name tag. Whoever spotted it was entered into a drawing and our prospective member JoAnn Smith won! It was a great Rally.
