MAY 2006  OUTING REPORT

By Marlene Sholtes

Our May meeting was held at Paradise Island , Ft. Lauderdale .  14 rigs arrived Thursday, and 4 arrived Friday for a total of 18 member rigs.  The McDonald's Air & Sea Show was warming up, and we watched and heard as the jets roared overhead practicing their formations while the Goodyear blimp slowly drifted along. During the weekend, some members ventured to the beach area to enjoy the show.  After our Thursday social gathering, some members visited the many restaurants in the area.

Friday morning was uneventful until W. C. Herndon's sewer hose was attacked and destroyed by a weed wacker.  Fortunately he discovered this while dumping his grey water. The hose was replaced by the campground. The highlight of the afternoon was a champagne party hosted by the O'Brien's in celebration of their newly purchased Horizon.  We all enjoyed the Korbel champagne and touring their coach.  We also toasted Conrad Treusch's 77th birthday.  The Vandervlugt's were visiting for the day.  Peter was persuaded to show us his private tattoo that he celebrated his retirement with.

The evening meal was Bibisi's Italian Night featuring homemade lasagna, garlic bread, and salad.  Good job guys!  Members supplied delicious desserts, and Conrad brought a beautiful cake for his birthday.  After the meal, a few stayed to socialize, and Harvey Peacock brought out his guitar and sang a few songs.

Saturday morning breakfast was French Toast and Sausages prepared by our renowned chefs, George Shaughnessy, W.C. Herndon, and Rick Bunn.  The Arts and Crafts class was led by Joan Gill who showed us how to make beautiful hand-stamped greeting cards.  It was a little tricky, but everyone put their own card together, some making up to three of them.  Joan's helpers were Damaris Travers, Barbara Drapeau, and Joe and Marlene Sholtes  The afternoon was warm and many went to the pool to float around.  Happy hour with the world famous Party Animal Raffle Babes was a success, as usual.  Many fine raffle gifts were won by the happy ticket holders.  We welcomed friends of the Peacock's, Marina and Helen DeForge, and the Bierie's daughter, Becky, who just flew in from Texas .  Also the De Sepio's visited us for the day.  Dinner consisted of deep-fried catfish, cole slaw, baked beans and hush puppies prepared by Bob and Joan Gill, George Shaughnessy, Damaris Travers and Becky Bunn.  Lynn De Sepio was up to her elbows breading the catfish!  Again, the members brought great desserts.  Following dinner was a spirited, rousing game of Yankee Trader.  Members brought an item worth at least $5 and put it in a sealed paper bag.  If someone has an opened gift that you like, when it is your turn you can take it from them instead of picking one from the unopened bags.  A few valuable picture frames became the gift of choice and made the rounds many times.  Lotsa laughs!

Sunday morning breakfast was an extra treat.  In addition to the bagels and cream cheese, some eggs and sausages were whipped up by our perennial chefs.  We then had our monthly meeting.  We parted company wishing each other safe travels until next month when we meet in the Florida Keys .
