November 2004 Outing Report
By Lee Macdonald

Our November Thanksgiving outing was held at Paradise Island RV Resort in Fort Lauderdale .

13 rigs arrived on Thursday including Joan & Jury Krajack, Lee Macdonald ’s sister and nephew visiting from Colorado . The remaining 3 rigs came in on Friday. Members Ed and Jan Miles commuted back and forth for all the activities from home. Thursday night 23 of us piled into cars and ventured out for dinner. We enjoyed delicious seafood at the Old Florida Seafood House, one of the areas really good restaurants. They were able to accommodate our group in a nice private dining room.

Friday was spent visiting and catching up on news, touring the area and shopping expeditions. We were glad to see Al Rowe back with his friend Ethel Allen .  We were also pleased to see Virgin & Peter Vandervlugt, prospective members, who came for the day. Unfortunately they could not stay for the weekend. That evening chefs George Shaughnessy, Bob O’Brien, Ken Perry and Ed Miles prepared grilled cheeseburgers and Damaris Travers fixed baked beans which were enjoyed by all.  Lora Older celebrated her 85th birthday this weekend and we all helped her eat her delicious  strawberry birthday cake.   After dinner Florence Allen and Virgin Vandervlugt earned meritorious service medals leading our Rowdy Bunch in a fun game of Bunco.  Most of us were able to follow their clear instructions. We all had a good time.

Saturday morning Rick Bunn and George Shaughnessy assisted by Becky Bunn and Ed Miles prepared bacon & scrambled eggs and fresh baked biscuits for all.  Afterwards a few of the members worked on making belts out of pop top tabs and leather strips. Meanwhile the 3 stuffed turkeys were put in the oven to roast and 10 pounds of potatoes were peeled by the guys.

A few more guests arrived in the afternoon including past members Bob and Athene Engel, Sylvia & Lee ’s friend Pat Bartlett , and members Bill and Enes De Sepio .  Happy hour brought the group together and our bartenders Del Butcher and assistant Ken Perry concocted our favorite beverages.  Damaris Travers and Becky Bunn , our Raffle Babes, sold lots of raffle tickets. 17 great prizes were won by lucky ticket holders.

Our Thanksgiving Dinner was superb! Turkey , stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and lots of other veggies and sides were enjoyed. Dessert was pumpkin pie with whipped cream ,  frosted cake,  a huge bowl of melon chunks, and a peanut butter pie to die for!.   After dinner many of the group stayed to play Card Bingo, a fun game enjoyed by all.

Sunday morning we enjoyed scrambled eggs with bacon and toast.  Our monthly meeting followed during a torrential downpour.  Fortunately the rain quit by the meeting end.  We all said our good-bys until December and our Christmas outing.
