South Florida Winnie-Gators

OCTOBER 2005 Outing Report

By Barbara Drapeau

Our October outing was held at La Belle Woods RV Park. Three rigs arrived on Wednesday, nine on Thursday and six on Friday for a total of eighteen. A number of South Florida Winnies had dinners on Wednesday & Thursday at Flora & Ella’s, a favorite local restaurant.

Friday, Harvey & Silvia Peacock uncorked a case of champagne and we celebrated their new coach. Presidents Rick & Becky Bunn demonstrated a new drink gadget, the Magic Bullet, and mixed up a lot of fancy drinks like you would find in the Islands.

Friday night  hamburgers were grilled and were accompanied by plenty of beans, Dessert was an Ice Cream cake to celebrate Charlie Traver’s Birthday. Afterwards we played card Bingo and George Shaughnessy (who never plays cards) was the big winner!  He just loves this game …… a No Brainer!

Saturday morning the men manned the kitchen, frying up bacon, scrambling eggs and baking biscuits. Wonderful aromas!

After breakfast the ladies got together and stencil painted T-Shirts. Every shirt came out beautiful.

Now the best part of the weekend follows. If you missed this campout you missed the best in 25 years!  The costume party was the highlight of the weekend with our raffle Babes dressed as Cave Women. The make-up was so great you couldn’t guess who they were until they spoke. Damaris & Becky will have to run a mile to beat this years’ costume. For the next two hours roars of laughter could be heard blocks away. People left the hall holding their sides.

Dinner followed with chicken teriyaki, slaw and a variety of veggies. Two desserts ran a neck to neck competition, Bob O’Briens Peanut Butter Pie and Coconut Cream Pie from Flora & Ella’s. After dinner more laughs were had playing Yankee Trader. The two most popular gifts were 4 golf balls with a $10 bill wrapped around and a fiber-optic pumpkin. Lucky winners of these prizes were Frankie Morgan and Mo Shaughnessy. Mo gave the pumpkin to me, Thanks Mo!  So much laughter our sides will never be the same.

Sunday morning we enjoyed breakfast of scrambled eggs and toast. Our monthly meeting followed  where we welcomed in new members Jim & Sue Wilson who hail from Jupiter, Florida.  Farewells were wished till we meet at Paradise Island in Fort Lauderdale.
