OCTOBER  2006  OUTING REPORT

By Marlene Sholtes

Our October meeting was held at La Belle Woods Campground.  16 rigs arrived on Thursday and five arrived on Friday.  We began our weekend with a champagne toast to Sandy Riley and her new-to-her Adventurer.  It seems many of our club members keep changing their motor homes for newer and better ones.  On Thursday, most members traveled to Flo & Ellas, a local restaurant, for dinner.  Their motto is Life is Uncertain, Eat Dessert First, and they do offer many desserts.

Friday was a nice warm day and found many members in the pool and socializing.  At happy hour we had a 50/50 raffle and Marge Shaughnessy and Joan Gill were the winners (as well as our club).  Our dinner was gourmet hot dogs and chili sauce, expertly prepared by Bob & Joan Gill, Damaris Travers made the beans and Marlene Sholtes made the cole slaw.  We then joined in a game of Crazy Cards led by Damaris Travers and Joan Gill.  The top winners were Chuck Seager, Rick Bunn, Buddy Webb, with Ethel Allen getting the booby prize for lowest score!

Saturday morning, George Shaughnessy, Bruce Cheatum, Bob Gill and Rick Bunn cooked breakfast of scrambled eggs, bacon, cheese grits and hot rolls.  Delish!  After breakfast, Marlene and Joe Sholtes had an Arts & Crafts session decorating shirts to be worn at the March State Rally.  Everyone did their own design.  Our members have such talent!  Happy hour was a Halloween theme, and some members wore masks.   Bartender Joe Sholtes fooled some people.  They did not know it was him behind the mask.  There were many laughs with our Raffle Babes, Becky and Damaris, who were dressed up as cave women.  It was hard to believe they can change their appearance with their make-up and wigs.  It was hard to tell who they were!

Dinner consisted of Chicken Parmesan, prepared by Bob Gill and his able-bodied assistants Joan Gill, Becky Bunn, Bruce Cheatum, George Shaughnessy and Marcel Drapeau.  Barbara Drapeau made a yummy Italian salad.  Our special guests were the campground managers, Steve and Brunnie Harrington and their children, and also our second time guests, Ray and Joan Heath.  Damaris Travers honored her husband, Charlie, for his 80th birthday with a huge birthday cake and ice cream.

Happy Birthday to you Charlie and many more!  Our entertainment for the evening was Yankee Trader.  As always, there are always a few popular prizes that keep getting passed around.  Lotsa laughs!!

Sunday morning we gathered for breakfast.  We then had our monthly meeting when we welcomed our newest members Ray and Joan Heath from New Smyrna Beach, FL.  We parted ways until next month until we meet again at Paradise Island, Fort Lauderdale.
