South Florida Winnie-Gators SEPTEMBER 2007 OUTING REPORT By Marlene Sholtes
After our summer break, our chapter held our first get together at Tropical Palms in Kissimee in the heart of Disney World. 20 coaches and two guest coaches were in attendance. The weather was quite warm and so were the greetings, everyone catching up on news since our last outing in June. We seemed to be plagued with problems with our motor homes, but we all worked them out and enjoyed ourselves anyway! Those in attendance were: Allen, Bibisi, Bierie, Bunn, Cheatum, Dunn, Gill, Heath, Macdonald/Smith, Morgan, O’Brien, Peacock, Perry, Schoening, Shaughnessy, Sholtes, Travers, Webb, Williamson, Wilson, and our two guests Fantelli and Tuzzolo. Dan & Linda Tuzzolo were attending their second meeting and voted in as members.
We also had many other guests this outing: Rick & Becky Bunn’s grandson, Cole, spent a night with them, and arriving for dinner were their daughter, her friend and his two daughters; Dan & Linda Tuzzolo’s daughter and her two friends; Bob & Joan Gill’s granddaughter and great granddaughter; and George & Marge Shaughnessy’s friends, Jeff & Val Hastings.
We were treated to a champagne toast at Ray & Joan Bibisi’s new 39-foot Suncruiser. We wish them well in their new home, as they are now full-timers. Our chapter certainly does support Winnebago Industries!
Harvey Peacock was a lucky man at our Friday night 50/50 raffle, winning two of the three prizes. Marge Shaughnessy won the third prize. Our Friday dinner was a delicious meal prepared by Bob Gill. He prepared pork by smoking it for many hours and then shredding it. It was awesome! It was accompanied by Cole Slaw, prepared by Damaris Travers, and Baked Beans, prepared by Marlene Sholtes and Joan Gill. Our entertainment for the evening was Card Bingo. The winners were: Bob Schoening, Linda Cheatum, who won twice, and our guest Jean Fantelli.
We awoke Saturday morning to another great breakfast of blueberry and plain pancakes and sausages expertly prepared by Bob Gill, George Shaughnessy and Joe Sholtes. We discovered that one of our new members had to be taken to the local hospital due to kidney problems and was undergoing tests. As usual, our Happy Hour Mickey Babes, Becky Bunn and Damaris Travers, arrived and a good time was had by all, with the help of bartenders Joe Sholtes and George Morgan. There were many prizes won, but Harvey Peacock and Charlie Travers tied for winning the most prizes!
Our dinner of London Broil, which was slowly marinated and grilled outdoors, and accompanied by scalloped potatoes, was outstanding. The experienced chefs were Rick Bunn, Bob O’Brien, George Shaughnessy, Bob Gill, John Bierie, and Charlie Travers. Becky Bunn had marinated the meat for 56 hours which made it very tender. The members supplied the salads and veggies, and Damaris supplied her own birthday cake to celebrate her 80th birthday. A surprise visit of three hula dancers arrived and sang happy birthday to her. After dinner, some members ventured over to Old Town to view the Classic Cars on display. Rick Bunn and Marijo Bierie braved the Bungy Jump and lived to tell about it! No one else was interested in trying it.
Sunday morning we were treated to yummy Krispy Kreme donuts. We then had our Board and Membership Meeting. We all departed our separate ways until our meeting next month in Upriver RV Park in North Fort Meyers.
