Spacecoast Winnies
February 2002 Campout
News release

By Lynn Fitts
The Space Coast Winnies held their February campout at KARS Park, located on the Indian River Lagoon Estuary.   Nineteen member coaches were in attendance along with two visitors and one couple drove in for the installation of officers meeting.

The weekend began on Thursday as a few members arrived early to help Iva & Thumper Volkmer who had made arrangements for he campground.  With the outgoing officers in charge of the food for the weekend, they were all in attendance.  Some of our newest members were also among the group who caravanned to a local steak house for dinner.

Friday the rest of our members and guests arrived and spent much time in fellowship and card playing. We had a record attendance at this campout - guess everyone was ready to get with one another again.   Friday night’s meal was chili Lynn had made served with cheese, onions, hot sauce and crackers followed by homemade desserts brought in by members.  After dinner we held our regular meeting during which Phil Halstead, Florida State Winnie Gator President, installed the 2002 officers:  President Fred McNally, Vice President Edie Tomoser, Secretary Lynn Fitts, and Treasurer Max Kruichak.  The Chapters newest members were introduced:  Ken & Jo-Anne Buckley, Frank & Fran Daidone, Bob & Jeanne Miller, and Ralph & Nettie Bibbo along with our guests Phil & Shirley Halstead and Dick & Mikki Dodge, WIT Wagonmasters from Vermont.

A delicious breakfast sausage and egg casserole planned by Edie Tomoser was served on Saturday morning along with juice and coffee.  This was all stirred up in the kitchen on Friday night and 6 members took a pan home to bake in their RV the next morning.  YUM  it tasted wonderful.   Following breakfast several ladies traveled a few miles to Cocoa Village to shop a while, returning around noon.  Those who stayed at the campground entertained themselves with a Golf Game (using 2 golf balls on a rope and throwing it at a pvc pipe frame hoping to have the rope twine around one of the three rungs).  It turned out to be a very popular game for the weekend.

Dinner on Saturday was arranged by Max Kruichak at The Italian Courtyard Restaurant in Cocoa Beach.   Everyone caravanned and had a delightful meal there and returned to the campground for dessert and coffee.  Those who didn’t bring one on Friday night furnished dessert for Saturday.   Needless to say, there were lots of full  tummies by the end of the evening.  And,  we still had lots of time for our favorite card games,  3-13, Shanghai rummy and poker.  While the men played poker some were also watching the Winter Olympics on TV in that room.

It was pretty slow going Sunday, except for Pat & Estle White who left early to attend church.  There was an assortment of bakery goods, juice, and coffee to send everyone on their way until our next campout at the Florida State Rally in March.
