Space Coast Winnies
September 2003 Outing
By Lynn Fitts
The Space Coast Winnies held their September "30th Anniversary"
campout at Camelot RV Park in Malabar, FL. There were 8 member
coaches and one guest rig, Winnie-Gator President Gail and Woody Wood, in
attendance for the weekend. Friday and Saturday the Estel Whites, John
Dennis’, and Dudley Youngs drove in to take part in the festivities.
The Koehns and Fitts’ drove in early and enjoyed a great seafood dinner
nearby in Sebastian and afterwards a drive to Sebastian Inlet to the
Atlantic Ocean to see the high waves resulting from Hurricane Isabel.
The surfers were having a good time with the swells but the water looked
pretty rough.
Rigs started rolling in on Friday and by happy hour there were a lot of
varied conversations going especially about summer travels. Our
hosts for the weekend, Jack and Carolyn Harris and Ron and Veronica Koehn
prepared a very satisfying meal with hot dogs, chips, slaw, baked beans
and cookies. The campground supplied us a state-of-the-art Bingo
machine so our group along with another camping group enjoyed several
Bingo games called by Ron Koehn, assisted by Max Kruichak. There
were happy winners from both groups.
Saturday morning found us eating again! Jack Harris had a special
request for beef gravy on toast - and - since he was preparing
barbecued ribs for dinner, he got his way. Spouse Carolyn got up
early to make the gravy and, assisted by Jack and Ron and Veronica Koehn
everyone enjoyed an excellent breakfast with some of the sweetest
cantaloupe you can imagine. After breakfast, we held our regular
meeting, recognizing Gail & Woody Wood who were in attendance.
One Charter member, Gussie Kremer, and friend Ernie Moniga were recognized
at this 30th anniversary meeting.
During Saturday afternoon there was lots of visiting and card playing in
anticipation of the ribs we were having for dinner. Everyone brought
side dishes complementing the meat and we finished up with a beautiful
birthday cake and ice cream. Favorite card games completed the
evening.
Sunday morning almost everyone gathered for coffee, juice and toast with
jelly or gravy. Before noon almost everyone had said their adieus
and were en route home.
The next campout will be at the Sun ‘N Fun Campground in Sarasota, FL
with the Winnie-Gators State Club. We always look forward to meeting
with the State Club and renewing friendships from Chapters throughout the
state.
