Marina Bay
November, 2006 Moore Haven,
Florida Welcome to the
western shore of Lake Okeechobee! We
arrived at Moore Haven Marina in Moore Haven, Florida on Tuesday and
stayed until Thursday. The
park sits on the western shore of Lake Okeechobee which is well known for
great fresh water fishing. The
park overlooks canals connecting to the Lake and provides a great view of
water activity. Billy and Ralph
brought along their inflatable boats and had planned to feed the group
fresh-caught fish from the lake. Strong breezes off the lake quickly
changed their plans. The guys
groaned that the weather was not very cooperative for fishing so we opted
for some local touring and a visit to Wall-Mart.
We all really enjoyed visiting the nearby waterway lock which is
maintained by the US Army Corp of Engineers.
We arrived
about three weeks before the onslaught of snow birds so there was plenty
of room in the park. The
staff and volunteers were already starting to gear-up for the snow bird
arrivals but found time to make us feel welcome.
They were busy setting up Christmas decorations, planning
activities and arranging the clubhouse but still took the time to prepare
a country breakfast and a great dinner for the campers in the park.
The clubhouse
provided a safe haven from the windy weather and a place for the girls to
play Mexican Train and Chicken Foot.
Even though the wind was a little annoying the guys played wholly
board and enjoyed the Florida sunshine.
Changing
our meeting dates to weekdays has provided a greater number of parks for
our campouts. It’s always
fun to arrive and sad to leave a great bunch of friends.
We enjoyed another visit together and look forward to our Christmas
party planned in Titusville. Until next month… Gail Please
