Ho
Hum RV Park
Carrabelle, Florida
September,
2006
After
our normal summer break we kicked off our winter camping season in the
panhandle of Florida. The
Treasure Coast Travelers are so thankful that we are not dealing with
hurricanes this year and can actually make reservations without finding
campgrounds full of FEMA, insurance adjusters and construction workers. We are keeping our fingers crossed.
We
headed to Ho Hum RV Park which is located directly on the Gulf of Mexico
just east of Carrabelle, Fl. Ho
Hum RV Park is small campground with only fifty sites. Billy and Gail
spend several months at Ho Hum each year to enjoy the great fishing.
Redfish, trout and mullet are often caught from the Ho Hum pier.
Crabbing is also very productive. In
this campground you have a chance to meet and visit with campers from
around the world making friends that will last forever. If
you haven’t been there you must go!
Carrabelle
is a small fishing village with only one grocery store, pharmacy, police
station, post office and a couple of restaurants that are operated by the
local folks. No Big Macs
here! You can buy fresh
seafood daily from the incoming shrimp and oyster boats.
The area near Carrabelle served as a WWII training base
and the locals have opened a very interesting WWII Museum that is located
in town.
Ralph
and Billy provided fishing off shore in their zodiac style boats. Each
day Ann & Billy boarded the SSS Whale Tale (Billy’s boat) in pursuit
of “fish.” Ann
is quite the fisherman. Rising
at day break and sticking it out until the end of the day, Ann finally
landed her first redfish. She
was thrilled to share her fishing stories for the day.
Husband George decided to stay on land and clean the love bugs off
the RV and enjoy the park. I
have been prohibited from disclosing what Barbara and Ralph caught. (ha)
On
Sunday night we had our dinner at 2 ALS which is a small (local) seafood
restaurant. The food
was great! It was so nice to
eat fresh seafood.
The
only thing we apparently missed was a visit to Wicked Willies to
“boogie.” This is the
only local Saturday night entertainment.
We
said our goodbyes to Ho Hum on Wednesday morning for the long journey
home. It felt great to start
our winter camping season. We
are looking forward to visiting the Lake Okeechobee area next month.
Welcome back…
